36-Year-Old Man Goes to Prison for 4 Years Because Of Over 500 Stolen Sneakers
Last Wednesday, a 36-year-old man from Pinesville was sentenced to four years in prison. He and several other co-conspirators bought sneakers with a stolen credit card on the Internet to sell them on other platforms. Learn all about the exact details here.
The Charlotte Observer reports on 36-year-old Charles Brown, co-conspirator Robert Johnson, and several teenagers who bought about 565 sneakers with a stolen credit card in 2018. Of course, some high-end Jordans as well as other Grails from Nike and adidas were also part of the story.
Presumably, the crooks would have even bought significantly more sneakers. The credit card, which belongs to the head of the basketball department at California State University, Northridge, had a limit of 300,000 US dollars though. U.S. District Judge Max Cogburn called the crime a "conspiracy to defraud with access devices." Brown had purchased an average of more than 25 sneakers per day for a period of 22 days. The money as well as the sneakers are now being returned to the respective institutions.
