Snipes Celebrates 20th Anniversary and Announces Exclusive Collaborations

Snipes was founded by Sven Voth in Essen in 1998 and the first shop opened its doors in April of the same year. In 2018, it's time to celebrate 20 years of Street Cultures stores.

Due to Voth's graffiti background, Snipes also started selling spray cans, markers and other graffiti paraphernalia at the time. For this reason, the walls of the shop were decorated with artwork in 1998, as it was too expensive to have the walls professionally painted.

20th Anniversary of Snipes

To celebrate its 20th anniversary and unveil the first drop of its anniversary collaborations, Snipes invited international guests to its old and historic headquarters in Rodenkirchen, Cologne, Germany. The "Back in 98" collection is the first of these releases, featuring exclusive Snipes products from FILA, Karl Kani and New Era.

Influenced by classic styles familiar from late 90s R&B and hip-hop, big logos, bold colours and oversized cuts finally make a comeback. Streetwear designer Karl Kani brings a baggy denim suit to the table, while FILA revives its 2Pac-approved '96 silhouette. And to complete the throwback fit, headwear specialist New Era adds two exclusive snapback caps to the range.

Fun Facts: Did you know that Snipes started with its first retail shop in Essen in 1998 under the name "Spike's", which had to be changed to "Snipes" a little later for legal reasons, as the name was already taken and there was no money to buy the naming rights? So they quickly changed a few letters and dropped the apostrophe in the name, and Snipes was born.
