Nike and Hiroshi Fujiwara continue their long-standing collaboration and present three new silhouettes with the Fragment Concept Testing project. The focus is on exclusive interpretations of the Nike Air Liquid Max and the Mind 001 and Mind 002 models. The designs clearly bear Hiroshi's signature: minimalist, experimental and strongly focused on innovation.
In Hiroshi's version, the Air Liquid Max gets an all-black design with Fragment Concept Testing branding. The silhouette is based on four decades of Air Max innovation and combines comfort with a striking, futuristic shape. The Mind 001 also follows a minimalist approach: a black colourway is complemented by blue foam print dots that highlight the innovative design.
With the Mind 002, Fujiwara deliberately took a more experimental approach. New materials in the upper create a significantly altered look that makes the silhouette appear almost like a new model.
The Mind 001 and Mind 002 models will initially be available exclusively at Fragment on 14 March and worldwide via SNKRS and selected retailers from 19 March. The Fragment Air Liquid Max will follow on 31 March at Fragment and launch globally on 3 April.
This update came sooner than expected. Nike presents the Air Liquid Max, a new Air Max silhouette that will take centre stage on Air Max Day 2026. The sneaker combines four decades of Air Max innovation with a futuristic design. At its heart is a contoured, point-loaded Air unit that is only used where cushioning is needed, reducing weight and creating a particularly fluid running feel.
The low-profile upper is made of mesh with a three-layer textured print inspired by the poison dart frog. Bold green tones, a chrome Swoosh and a translucent outsole characterise the launch look. The Nike Air Liquid Max will be available on 26 March via SNKRS and selected retailers.

Every year on 26 March, Nike celebrates one of the most influential technologies in sneaker history: Air. Air Max Day commemorates the launch of the Air Max 1 in 1987 – the first sneaker with a visible Air unit – and has long since become a fixed date in the calendar of sneakerheads. In 2026, Nike will once again use the occasion to celebrate classics and present new highlights. From iconic retro releases to modern silhouettes, Air Max Day shows once again why the Air Max range has played a central role in sneaker culture for decades.
Air Max Day takes place every year on 26 March and commemorates one of the most important moments in sneaker history. On this day in 1987, the Air Max 1 was released, the first shoe with a visible Air unit. Designer Tinker Hatfield was inspired by the architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, where technical elements were deliberately placed on the outside.
What was initially considered a bold design experiment quickly developed into one of the most influential technologies in the sneaker industry. Models such as the Air Max 90, Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 made visible cushioning a definitive trademark of Nike.
Today, Air Max Day is much more than just an anniversary. For Nike, it is an annual stage for special releases, retro models and new silhouettes – and for sneakerheads worldwide, it is an opportunity to celebrate one of the most iconic series in sneaker culture.
The most important Air Max releases around Air Max Day 2026
As in previous years, Nike is using Air Max Day to showcase both iconic classics and new models. In 2026, the Air Max 95 remains one of the central themes, especially the legendary ‘Neon’ colourway, which continues to attract attention even after its anniversary year.
At the same time, there are growing indications that Nike could once again unveil a completely new Air Max silhouette. While models such as the Air Max Dn and Air Max Dn8 have taken centre stage in recent years, the Swoosh has so far been conspicuously reticent with concrete information about the 2026 line-up.
However, rapper Yeat has sparked initial speculation after recently appearing in a music video wearing a previously unknown Nike runner. The sneaker features a green upper on a dark base, combined with striking Air elements in the sole. The community is already speculating that the sneaker could be called the Nike Air Liquid Max. Although there is no official information yet, many assume that the silhouette could play a role around Air Max Day on 26 March.
Why Air Max continues to shape sneaker culture today
Since the introduction of the Air Max 1 in 1987, visible Air cushioning has been one of the most influential innovations in the world of sneakers. What began as a bold design experiment quickly developed into one of Nike's most important trademarks. Models such as the Air Max 90, Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 not only advanced running technology, but also had a lasting influence on streetwear culture.
Air Max quickly became an integral part of the street scene, especially in cities such as London, Tokyo and New York. Different generations of sneakerheads associate their own memories with certain models – from the first pair of Air Max 90s to modern silhouettes such as the Air Max Dn.
It is precisely this blend of innovation, nostalgia and constantly new interpretations that ensures that Air Max has lost none of its relevance almost four decades after its first release.
As with many major Nike releases, some of the coveted models are likely to sell out quickly around Air Max Day 2026. Most drops will take place via the Nike SNKRS App, with selected pairs also available from well-known retailers and selected Nike stores.
Especially with popular colourways or limited editions, it's worth keeping a close eye on release dates. Many models are only available in limited quantities and often sell out within minutes.
