The Air Jordan 39 is equipped with a combination of ZoomX foam and Air Zoom technology that provides unrivalled cushioning and responsiveness. This is the first time a basketball shoe has included this premium cushioning platform, known for its energy return and comfort. The upper of the sneaker is designed with an embroidered textile that provides secure support during explosive movements and is inspired by Michael Jordan's famous cross-step.

Joël Greenspan, Senior Design Director for Jordan Brand Performance Footwear, emphasises the minimalist aesthetic of the shoe, which focuses on form, proportion and attitude rather than making the advanced technology visible. The design is intended to provide athletes with the highest quality performance system while maintaining a clean, understated look.

The Air Jordan 39 also features a computer-aided design pattern on the upper derived from high-speed camera testing at the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL). This pattern improves flexibility and support in critical areas, while natural leather overlays provide additional stability. The herringbone tread pattern on the outsole provides optimal grip, which is crucial for quick changes of direction on the pitch.
