Authentication Program Soon on eBay

Whether you like it or not, there are still thousands of people who make their money with fake sneakers. They take advantage of unsuspecting buyers and sell, for example, a fake Dior x Air Jordan 1 High for a lot of money without the buyer ever knowing that it is in fact a cheap copy. Most of the time, there is almost no possibility of getting the money back.

Especially on auction platforms like eBay, many buyers fall for these fake sneakers, because they are sent directly from the sellers to the buyers without inspection by a third party. That is why sneakerheads might all the more be happy about this news that eBay has to announce.

Indeed, the auction platform eBay is launching an authentication program this month with SneakerCon, which, according to the press release, will be staffed by "an independent team of experts". Buyers will soon be able to buy authentic sneakers via the designated platform. The sneakers will undergo a rigorous, legitimate verification process and then be sent to the new owner with an eBay hangtag.

"Authentication has become an expectation for today's consumers in categories of high passion and high value. This program makes eBay the most attractive platform for enthusiasts in these categories," said Jordan Sweetnam, SVP and General Manager of eBay North America. "eBay runs the world's most diverse sneaker market — with the largest selection and best prices — and by removing all uncertainties in the buying process, our community can buy and sell with complete confidence."

This month, eBay is launching the Sneaker Authentication Service in the USA. Whether the service will also be offered in Europe is still unclear. In case eBay does not offer this service in the EU, we advise you to go directly to StockX. There you can also buy or sell authentic sneakers.
