Dr. Martens: from work shoe to cult icon
The story began in 1947, when German doctor Klaus Märtens developed a comfortable alternative to conventional leather shoes. With an air-cushioned sole and robust leather, the shoes offered optimum comfort and durability. In the 1960s, the British shoe company R. Griggs Group took over the design, anglicised the name and launched the Dr. Martens 1460 - still the brand's best-known model today.
From British skinheads to the grunge and punk movement of the 1990s: Dr. Martens became a symbol of youth subcultures and still stands for an individual look today.
Today, it is impossible to imagine the fashion world without Dr. Martens. Collaborations with designers such as Rick Owens, Supreme and A-COLD-WALL* prove that the brand is in tune with the zeitgeist. With high-quality materials, durable workmanship and an unmistakable aesthetic, Dr. Martens has evolved from a work shoe to one of the most iconic boots of all time.
Dr. Martens 1460: An icon with history
The Dr. Martens 1460 is the brand's best-known model and a true classic. Named after its release date on 1 April 1960, it was originally developed as a robust work boot. Distinctive features include the yellow stitching, the AirWair sole and the hard-wearing leather.
How to Care for Your Dr. Martens
Dr Martens shoes are known for their robustness, but with the right care you can extend their lifespan even further. Here are some important tips to keep your DM's in top shape.
1. cleaning Regular cleaning is very important. Remove dirt with a damp cloth or a soft brush. For heavier soiling, you can use a mild soap solution, but avoid aggressive chemicals that can dry out the leather.
2. care & moisture To keep the leather supple, you should treat it regularly with Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam or leather grease. Apply a small amount with a cloth or sponge and allow it to soak in well. This will keep the leather supple and maintain its lustre.

3. protection & impregnation For additional protection against water and stains, you can impregnate your DM with a water-repellent spray. Suede or nubuck models in particular benefit from special care.
4. sole & lining The AirWair sole is hard-wearing, but regular cleaning helps to maintain its grip. Air your shoes after wearing to prevent odours and use shoe trees to help them keep their shape.
