eBay Authenticity Guarantee - Buy and Sell Sneakers Safely

eBay finally introduces the authenticity guarantee in Europe — a secure service for buying and selling high-quality sneakers. But how does the eBay authenticity guarantee work, and what do you have to keep in mind? Can worn sneakers also be verified via eBay? We've gotten to the bottom of the matter and present the entire selling and buying process right here.

With Experts from Sneaker Con

Replicas, fakes, and cheap copies. They're a sheer horror for sneakerheads when it comes to shoes. But replicas have never been as common on the market as they are today. The black sheep in the sneaker game try to sell their copies to unsuspecting buyers for a lot of money. If no one between buyer and seller checks the sneakers for authenticity, the scammers often even get away with it.

But not with the eBay authenticity guarantee! The online platform is now launching an authenticity check for sneakers in cooperation with experts from Sneaker Con. For this, a long checklist of important attributes is checked, which are necessary for authentication. You can recognise the shoes by the blue tick and the logo "With authenticity check".

What Is Being Inspected on a Sneaker with eBay Authenticity Guarantee?

When you buy a sneaker with eBay Authenticity Guarantee, you can be sure that the shoes are checked very carefully by Sneaker Con. The experts check the colour, stitching, glue on the soles, patterns, logos, material, and various other characteristics. They also take measurements of the model and compare it with other models on eBay. The laces, accessories, and shoe box are also checked. Once everything has been checked and confirmed, the sneakers are then marked with an NFC-enabled eBay authenticity tag. This allows you to see all the details again.

Professional check, secure shipping, and all that for free for new and worn sneakers from 100€. Here, you can buy sneakers with the eBay Authenticity Guaruantee. Then, after the shoes have been checked, they are carefully packed for shipping and securely shipped using a fast shipping method, including tracking. All of this doesn't cost the buyer a penny because eBay covers the cost of the service right now.

Sell Sneakers with Authenticity Guarantee

Want to sell your sneaker safely and easily? Then do it here with eBay Authenticity Guarantee. Describe the shoe as well as possible. eBay's system will then automatically recognise whether the sneaker is eligible for the programme. Then, take a few good photos and post the sneakers for the buyers. If the sneakers are bought, you will be asked to send them to Sneaker Con.

Once again, the free service applies to new and used shoes with a value of 100€ or more.

Little Tips for the Packaging

Before the sneakers receive the authenticity tag, you should consider a few tips for shipping:

  • Pack the shoe box in a larger package, and pad it with bubble wrap or paper. This will prevent them from sliding back and forth. Please do not use the original shoe box of the sneaker. The original packaging is part of the offer.
  • When you sell, you will receive a delivery note generated by eBay. Please put this in the shoe box and not in the shipping box to ensure a smooth authenticity check.
  • Only pack items that are included in the original listing.
  • eBay labels are automatically generated and contain all important information. If you do not use an eBay label to send the sneakers to the Authentication Centre, the tracking number must be entered manually. Information such as the seller's name and the recipient's name and address must also be entered.

Sending Multiple Orders

If buyers have bought multiple units of the same item from you, for example, the same sneaker twice in the same shoe size, you can send both sneakers in one package. Pack them carefully in one box with a single packing slip that includes eBay's authenticity code. If you have a multi-SKU order (SKU = stock keeping unit), you can send all sneakers in one package. For this, however, send the respective authenticity code in the corresponding shoe box beforehand.

Why is my item not eligible for eBay Authenticity Guarantee?

Your item was not recognised by eBay for the service? Then this could probably have the following causes:

- The item has been altered and is no longer in the original state. This is the case with sneakers that have been personalised, signed or otherwise altered.

- The brand is not yet in the eBay Authenticity Guarantee programme.

- The service is only available for items purchased on ebay.co.uk. If the item is shipped to delivery addresses outside of Europe, eBay Authenticity Guarantee is not available.

What is an eBay Authenticity tag?

After a successful inspection by Sneaker Con, the sneakers receive an eBay authenticity tag. The authenticity tag is attached to the sneakers and can be scanned with an NFC-enabled device (iPhone 7 and above and most Android smartphones from 2015). Just hold your device close to the eBay tag, and you'll see the report for your sneaker.

How long does the authentication process by Sneaker Con take?

If you have purchased the item through eBay, it may take up to 4 to 7 days for the item to arrive. After purchase, the sneakers are sent to Sneaker Con for authentication. There, they will be inspected within two days after receipt. Afterwards, the item is quickly sent to you with tracking after the inspection. The costs at this point are also covered by eBay.

Is the original packaging included?

If the original packaging is part of the offer, then the original packaging is also supplied.

Can I return items with eBay Authenticity Guarantee?

If, in the unlikely event, you receive an item that does not match the offer, you can return the item through eBay Buyer Protection. From then on, refunds will be made through eBay Buyer Protection. All returns will be sent back to Sneaker Con. The partner then checks whether the item is still in the same condition and whether the accessories are present. In addition, Sneaker Con checks whether the item actually does not correspond to the offer. Please note here: Sneakers with a value of more than 250€ are considered collector's items. Therefore, do not try on the shoes to avoid creases. Additionally, the authenticity tag must not be damaged.

Are items with eBay Authenticity Guarantee covered by eBay Buyer Buyer Protection?

You can shop with peace of mind. Your purchases with the authenticity guarantee are covered by eBay Buyer Protection, provided all the conditions are met. Find out more about the eBay Buyer Protection policy here.

Why did I get the item back after returning it?

If the Sneaker Con authenticity inspector has determined that the original packaging has been damaged or that items have been stolen, the item will be returned to the buyer. The return is then completed.

Do I have to use eBay Authenticity Guarantee?

Yes, eBay's authenticity guarantee cannot be turned off or bypassed. It guarantees a secure process and protects buyers from counterfeits.
