The New Balance 550 has been on shelves since 1989, but its big break came with the help of Teddy Santis in 2020. Increasingly, collaborators are reworking it, but the silhouette still doesn't seem to have found its true identity. Most recently, the Boston-based brand has released college-friendly styles.
New Balance's latest offering could be a version of Aimé Leon Dore. A mostly colourless line provides the spotlight for subtle contrasting colours on the upper and sole. Yellow and blue hug the heel, recalling Marquette University's team colours, while burgundy accentuates the tongues and midsoles, reinvigorating the colour palette.
Further accents are then added with sky blue logos and outsoles that sit atop a premium light leather construction. Lastly, New Balance immortalises itself with signature NB logos on the heels.
