Latest Pickup: New Balance 1906F "Blue Bird" & "Punch Yellow"

The New Balance 1906 has long been one of the standout silhouettes in the current range – and with the 1906F, the model is now getting an exciting update. Rather than simply repeating existing designs, New Balance has gone a step further here, giving the classic retro runner a significantly more progressive, almost outdoor-inspired direction.

The foundation remains familiar: the 1906F is built on the tried-and-tested platform already seen in the 1906R, 2002R and 860v2. In practical terms, this means an mesh upper combined with synthetic overlays that provide structure and stability.

What stands out straight away, however, is the design. The upper looks much more technical, almost deconstructed. The overlays are sharper and more minimalist, giving the shoe a more angular, modern silhouette. Added to this is the redesigned lacing system, which is more commonly found on trail or outdoor models. For us, this is a detail that immediately sets the 1906F apart.

The 1906F clearly demonstrates just how versatile the silhouette is – in both the "Blue Bird" and "Punch Yellow" versions. Whilst "Blue Bird" features cool blue tones ranging from light to dark, complemented by aquamarine details, "Punch Yellow" takes a much bolder approach.

Here, a yellow-orange gradient runs from the upper down to the sole, lending the shoe a distinct sense of dynamism. The typical overlays have been replaced by triangular synthetic elements, which give the design an even more technical and angular look. Small contrasts, such as blue details on the tongue or trail-inspired features like pull-tabs, deliberately break up the warm colour scheme.
