With its Made in USA Spring/Summer 2026 collection, New Balance picks up exactly where the brand is at its strongest: grey trainers, high-quality materials and subtle details that make all the difference. The 992 ‘Shadow Grey’ and the 1300 ‘Slate Grey’ are two models that look familiar at first glance, yet each has its own distinct character.
The New Balance 992 ‘Shadow Grey’ doesn’t simply stick to the classic combination of grey suede and mesh. Instead, New Balance has opted for a slightly different mix of materials, which immediately gives the shoe more depth.

The upper combines cream-coloured Turtledove mesh with darker shades of grey and pre-washed-looking leather elements on the quarter panel. Added to this are nubuck overlays on the toe, mudguard and heel, which give the shoe a little more structure and weight. It is precisely this that makes the 992 look not quite as clean as many other grey ‘Made in USA’ releases, but rather slightly worn-in and a bit rougher.
Nevertheless, the look remains quintessentially New Balance. Understated, high-quality and extremely wearable.

The comfort you’d expect from the 992
The 992 isn’t just about the look. The combination of the ENCAP midsole and ABZORB cushioning in the heel and forefoot delivers exactly that soft, stable feel underfoot that has made the shoe so popular for years.
You can tell straight away that the 992 isn’t just a passing fad. The shoe fits securely, offers plenty of support and works well for everyday wear. Especially on long days, it’s one of those trainers you can rely on.

1300 “Slate Grey” with a stronger vintage vibe
The New Balance 1300 “Slate Grey” takes a slightly more understated approach, but as a result has an even stronger archive feel. The silhouette is, in any case, a model for people who truly celebrate New Balance. To many, the 1300 might look like a classic Grey Runner at first glance, but it’s precisely in the details that the appeal lies.

The upper combines Permafrost Off-White mesh with leather and suede overlays in cool grey tones. Slate Grey, Harbour Grey and the cream-coloured base give the shoe that aged look without appearing artificial.
The small retro details are particularly striking: the woven 1300 tongue label, the exposed foam tongue and the slightly hairy accents on the ‘N’ logo and the collar. As a result, the shoe feels much more like an 80s runner than a modern lifestyle trainer.

Two grey New Balance trainers, two different approaches
What both models have in common is that signature ‘Made in USA’ DNA. High-quality materials, subtle colours and a stunning look. The 992 ‘Shadow Grey’ is darker, more technical and, thanks to the mix of materials, slightly more modern. The 1300 ‘Slate Grey’ looks cleaner, more nostalgic and even a touch more classic.
That is precisely what makes both releases so exciting. They belong to the same New Balance universe, but in completely different ways.

Why we love these two trainers
The 992 immediately impresses with its comfort and slightly worn look. It feels high-quality, doesn’t look too perfect, and has enough character to work even with a completely simple outfit.
The 1300, on the other hand, is the more understated choice. It’s a shoe that doesn’t need to make a statement straight away, but that’s precisely what makes it so strong. The vintage details give it character, whilst the grey colour palette ensures it remains extremely easy to wear in everyday life.
Conclusion With the 992 ‘Shadow Grey’ and the 1300 ‘Slate Grey’, New Balance demonstrates once again why grey ‘Made in USA’ releases are such a hit. Both models stay true to the brand’s identity, yet feature enough unique details to avoid looking like standard grey colourways.

The 992 is the slightly darker, more textured version with excellent comfort. The 1300 offers a more classic vintage look and feels almost like a pristine archive release.
