Michael Jordan's Air Jordan 13s from The Last Dance Break Record as Most Expensive Pair of Sneakers at Auction

Sotheby's has announced that Michael Jordan's Air Jordan 13s from the 1998 NBA Finals, featured in The Last Dance, have sold for US$2.2 million. This sale is believed to be the highest publicly known price for a pair of sneakers.

"Today's record-setting result proves once again that demand for Michael Jordan sports collectibles continues to exceed all expectations," said Brahm Wachter, Head of Sotheby's Streetwear and Modern Collectibles. "Sotheby's is extremely proud to hold the world record for the most valuable sports memorabilia sold at auction and the most valuable pair of sports shoes ever sold, both of which are, not surprisingly, directly linked to global idol Michael Jordan."

It's no secret that Jordan sports memorabilia is highly sought after on the auction market. Sotheby's has already auctioned six pairs of Michael Jordan's legendary championship Air Jordan sneakers. But this pair of sneakers is considered particularly significant as it was worn in Jordan's final year with the Chicago Bulls.

Authenticated by The MeiGray Group, these shoes are not only the only complete sneakers worn by Jordan in the Finals, but also the last pair of Air Jordan XIII "Breds" Jordan ever donned in an NBA game. He gave them to a ball boy after the game and signed each pair to thank him for his help and hospitality during his visits to the Bulls.
