New Balance and Up There Celebrate the Typical Australian Backyard Barbecue

With an adventurous video on Instagram, Up There has announced its collaboration with New Balance. The sporting goods manufacturer and Australian retailer are eschewing a sporty look for the new 2002R, instead taking inspiration from the quintessential Aussie backyard barbecue. Check out the first pics of the Up There x New Balance 2002R "Backyard Legends" here now.

Here's what Up There has to say about the collaborative New Balance 2002R: "On a single afternoon, you might be playing a few rounds of cricket while holding an ice-cold can in your free hand to ward off the mosquitoes and deal with the relentless humidity. You may not like it, but this is what top performance looks like. With all that in mind, we've designed a shoe that's made for suburban sports. It has lightweight fused panels, lush suede, custom lasts, and even some quirky 2000 laces. It all comes together in a colourway that's basically about nothing, and they're full of New Balance nerd Easter eggs.

The base of the Up There x New Balance 2002R "Backyard Legends" is made of white mesh, and next to it green overlays accentuate, along with purple hits in the back. Further details come in the form of "new balance AUS" logos on the tongues and reflective N logos.
