Fans are talking about the 40th anniversary of the Nike Air Force 1, but do you have the Nike Cortez on your radar? The silhouette will be a whopping 50 years old in 2022, and Nike won't be missing out on this holiday either. After all, the silhouette didn't get off to an easy start.
Since its launch in 1972, the Nike Cortez has been a part of a legal battle between the current label and Onitzuka. Both brands fought over the rights to the name, but in 1974, Nike won the dispute.
Nike SB is also joining in the anniversary celebrations. The brand will be releasing a Cortez-inspired Nike BRSB. Not only does the silhouette inherit the Cortez's low-profile and scalloped herringbone outsole, but two of the upcoming drops will also feature OG styling. In addition, a comfortable React foam cushions the sneakers.
