Nike Makes a Breakthrough in Sustainability Through Circular Design with the ISPA Link Axis

The Nike ISPA Link Axis is all about making the bold even bolder. This shoe is a groundbreaking piece of research by Nike to create a fully circular design that is as innovative as it gets. And what's even more impressive is that every single part can be recycled. From interlocking components to eliminating adhesives and using as little material as possible, this shoe is a true game changer in sustainability.

For over 30 years, Nike has worked to create products that are good for athletes and good for the environment. The company has developed innovative materials such as Nike Grind and Air and continues to break new ground with new designs that incorporate recycled components. With the climate crisis becoming ever more pressing, Nike is going one step further. The company has developed the Nike 2019 Circular Design Guide, which describes ten principles for sustainable design. And the ISPA Link Axis is just the latest example of how Nike is putting these principles into practice.

One of the most difficult principles of circular design in the development of footwear is dismantlability, i.e. the ability to easily disassemble a product in order to recycle its components. Normally, shoes are held together by adhesives and other fasteners, which makes recycling difficult. The Link Axis, however, uses material selection, waste reduction and recycling to create a shoe that can be disassembled and recycled. The Nike ISPA Link Axis will be available at SNKRS on 12 September at a price of €300.
