Nike Sues BAPE for Infringement of Trademark Rights

This is a move that many Nike fans probably saw coming. Nike recently took a stand against BAPE and filed a lawsuit for infringement of trademark rights to Nike Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1, and Nike Dunk. According to Reuters, Nike claims that BAPE’s shoe business was designed to copy Nike’s iconic shoe designs.

Nike named five of BAPE’s products as “near-literal copies” of Nike designs. These include the BAPE STA, BAPE STA Mid, SK8 STA, COURT STA High, and the COURT STA.

Nike hopes that BAPE will stop selling the shoes and pay for the damage caused. Although both companies have not officially spoken about it, Nike says that BAPE has “refused” to stop the infringements. It remains to be seen what impact this dispute will ultimately have on Nike and BAPE.
