Jordan Brand has declared 2023 "Jordan Year", and in honour of the legendary Michael Jordan and his jersey number 23, they are launching a collaboration with the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation for a special sneaker auction. To celebrate this year even more, the Notorious B.I.G. x Air Jordan 13 is finally being released, originally made in 2017 for Notorious B.I.G's 45th birthday and just the thing to celebrate hip-hop's 50th anniversary as well!
However, the shoe is only available in a limited edition of 23 pieces and the release of the Notorious B.I.G. x Air Jordan 13 will be no ordinary one. In fact, the sneakers can only be purchased through an online auction at Sotheby's.
"We are thrilled that Jordan Brand and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation have entrusted Sotheby's with these exclusive pairs of sneakers in honour of Notorious B.I.G.'s legacy as part of Jordan Year 2023 celebrations," said Brahm Wachter, Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectibles at Sotheby's. "The auction is the only opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike to acquire these special, limited-edition sneakers that combine the legacy of the greatest athlete of all time with that of the greatest rapper of all time."
The auction begins today and ends on February 3rd, and the estimated price for each pair ranges from $2,300 to $5,200. A portion of the proceeds from this auction will be directed to benefit the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, which supports inner-city youth with educational tools, sponsorships, scholarships, and mentorship programmes.
