AURALEE x New Balance 204L "Plaza Taupe"

TLDR: The AURALEE x New Balance 204L collaboration combines minimalist Japanese design with the current slim-sneaker trend. Two extremely clean colourways, flat soles and high-quality materials make the 204L one of the most exciting fashion trainers of the year – it releases on 29 May for €160.

With the 204L, New Balance is launching a completely new silhouette that combines running elements from the 70s with futuristic panel details from the early 2000s. Together with AURALEE, the trainer now gets a particularly high-quality and minimalist interpretation.

The collaboration is available in two different styles. The ‘White Lime’ features breathable mesh with white leather overlays and subtle cream and lime accents. The ‘Dark Brown’, on the other hand, dispenses with mesh entirely and offers a luxurious full-suede look in a rich chocolate brown.

The extremely flat sole is particularly striking. The 204L thus follows the current trend for slim trainers and low-profile silhouettes, which are currently becoming increasingly prevalent in fashion and streetwear circles. Despite the minimalist design, the typical New Balance running DNA remains clearly recognisable.

As is customary with AURALEE, the branding remains very understated. Co-branding is found almost exclusively on the insoles, whilst the clean overall look takes centre stage. It is precisely this blend of luxury, understated style and tech aesthetics that makes the collaboration so strong right now.
