With the Bronx Girls Skate x Nike SB Dunk Low, Nike SB is releasing a collaboration that offers much more than just style. The design pays homage to the Bronx, its skateboarding community and founders Mel Ramirez and Kava Vasquez, who have been championing women and queer people in skateboarding since 2020.

The sneaker immediately catches the eye: the black leather upper with stingray texture is framed by coloured piping – each colour represents a Bronx subway line: orange (B/D), green (4/5/6) and red (1/2). The design is rounded off by a white Swoosh, a semi-transparent smoke grey outsole and a black midsole.

The attention to detail runs throughout the design. A gold ‘NY’ charm hangs from the heels, reminiscent of old subway tokens. The tongue is adorned with graffiti-style ‘BXGS’ logos, while the insoles are printed with the message ‘I Am Because We Are’ in English and Spanish. The gold lace dubraes are reminiscent of grillz and feature Bronx Girls Skate branding.
