TLDR: The Converse SHAI 001 Lace Up brings back Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature trainer in a much more classic basketball style. The zip shroud has been removed, the lacing is exposed, and with ‘Lime Latte’ and ‘Berry Shady’, significantly more colourful colourways are being introduced for the first time. It’s set to be released on 14 August 2026 for €110. With the SHAI 001 Lace Up, Converse is changing one of the key design features of SGA’s first signature trainer. Instead of the closed, fashion-forward zip shroud, the shoe now features exposed lacing, bringing the silhouette much closer to that of a classic basketball boot.
The colour schemes are also much more bold. The “Berry Shady” features various shades of pink with a lighter-coloured collar, whilst the “Lime Latte” utilises bright shades of green, yellow and grey. With this, Converse is moving away, at least in part, from the predominantly monochrome colourways with which the SHAI 001 originally launched.
The release is also exciting because of the timing. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has already announced his move from Converse to Nike. The new lace-up versions are therefore among the final chapters of his Converse era, before a new signature project with Nike is likely to follow in the future.
