Whilst Shai Gilgeous-Alexander battles for the NBA title with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Converse is launching one of the most eye-catching versions of his signature shoe. The new SHAI 001 Premium “Steel” features a completely new material concept and is part of the silhouette’s exclusive premium line.

Unlike the regular releases, Converse has replaced the usual neoprene upper with high-quality metallic leather. The silver finish covers almost the entire shoe, giving the model a futuristic, almost luxurious look. Even elements such as the characteristic heel clip have been given a matching chrome finish.

The monochrome colour scheme remains true to Shai’s design philosophy. Previous colourways such as ‘Truffle’ or ‘Ink’ already featured uniform colour schemes. With the ‘Steel’, this concept is now taken to the extreme with a striking metallic look.

The only contrast comes from the white midsole, which visually breaks up the shiny upper. At the same time, the basketball shoe’s performance DNA remains fully intact, ensuring the SHAI 001 remains a serious contender on the court.

The release falls right in the middle of the NBA Finals and is likely to attract extra attention, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has already been wearing the colourway on court during the playoffs.
