TLDR: The Free The Youth x Air Jordan 16 combines a futuristic metallic look with powerful storytelling from Ghana. Two removable shrouds, colourful details and references to the Tawny Eagle make this rarely seen AJ16 one of the most exciting Jordan collaborations of the year. The global release is on 15 August 2026 for €250. With the Air Jordan 16, Free The Youth is celebrating its first widely available Jordan collaboration. The Ghanaian creative collective has chosen a silhouette that rarely features on the retro calendar, combining it with symbols, colours and stories from their homeland.
The upper features a highly glossy metallic silver finish. The toe box appears almost mirror-like, whilst other areas have a slightly crinkled foil texture. Beneath this, black mesh and multicoloured panels are revealed, adding significantly more colour to the otherwise very futuristic design.
The highlight is the removable shrouds. One version remains silver to match the upper, whilst the second features colourful graphics reminiscent of the Tawny Eagle’s wings. Orange accents on the heel and outsole provide additional contrast, whilst Free the Youth branding is subtly scattered across the trainer. The packaging also picks up on the theme: multicoloured tissue paper and the phrase “We succeeded in giving the people hope” on the lid make the release even more personal.
