TLDR: The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK ‘Grey/Navy’ combines classic running DNA from the 80s with state-of-the-art Made in UK technology. High-quality materials, FuelCell cushioning and a clean retro look make this trainer a standout premium release. It drops on 21 May for €250. With the 991v2, New Balance is bringing back a modern evolution of a true running classic. The new “Grey/Navy” version is based on the popular “Iconic Influences” concept and features a three-colour design originally inspired by a classic 1530 model.
Visually, the trainer remains true to its heritage DNA, yet appears significantly more dynamic and modern thanks to its updated silhouette. High-quality nubuck overlays meet breathable mesh and synthetic nubuck accents. The combination of grey, navy and off-white tones creates a timeless and extremely versatile colourway that fits perfectly into any rotation.
Technically, too, this UK-made runner delivers. The full-length FuelCell midsole ensures a particularly responsive running experience, whilst ENCAP cushioning offers additional stability. Semi-transparent ABZORB-SBS pods in the heel area provide modern comfort whilst echoing the futuristic look of the 991v2. Reflective details and the embroidered “v2” branding on the tongue round off the design.
As usual, the trainer is manufactured in Flimby, England, and thus continues to represent the highest quality within the New Balance range.
