Through its “Family Reunion” pack, Nike explores the different musical and cultural influences that helped carry the Air Force 1 far beyond its original role as a basketball shoe. The “Air Soul” edition focuses on vinyl culture, soul and the silhouette’s close relationship with the history of hip-hop.
The upper is constructed from glossy black leather that reveals dark brown and reddish tones under certain lighting. Tonal Swooshes, black heel panels and matching lining keep the colourway understated at first glance. Subtle Cinnamon stitching around the Swoosh and heel adds further depth to the almost entirely black design.
Bright Cinnamon laces with a soft, fuzzy texture provide the most noticeable contrast. Gold-coloured AF1 dubraes introduce another premium accent, whilst an additional darker lace option is expected to offer a more restrained appearance.
The main story is hidden inside the trainer. Mismatched insoles resemble the labels found on traditional vinyl records: one features orange Nike Air branding, whilst the other displays “Air Soul” graphics and a reference to 1982, the year the Air Force 1 made its debut. “Long Playing” details on the tongue continue the LP-inspired theme.
A completely black Air midsole and matching rubber outsole complete the colourway. Encapsulated Air cushioning retains the familiar comfort associated with the Air Force 1.
