Nike Air Max 90 Pirate Radio White Release News

As the sporting goods manufacturer of some of the best sneakers around, Nike has continually thought about global cultural events and other important changes over the years to create new and unique colourways.

For the upcoming inspiration, the Beaverton-based brand is moving outside of the green zone. More specifically, two new Nike Air Max 90s are inspired by pirate radio. The so-called "pirate radio" is a radio station that broadcasts its programme without a license.

This is not the first time Nike has honoured radio. In 2006, Nike collaborated with British artist Ben Drury for an Air Max 1. The special feature on this sneaker was the embroidered "Hold Tight" on the tongues.

While these sneakers are not a continuation of the old classics, they allude to the same theme. Radio waves criss-cross on the Nike Air emblem on the heels, while the famous skull broadcast images are printed underneath the shoe's translucent, icy outsole.

While the first edition recalls the roots, this AM90 gets a clean arrangement. Gold details then round off the overall design.
