Nike connects two important chapters of its football history with this release. The upper recalls the Mercurial R9 worn by Ronaldo Nazário at the 1998 World Cup in France. Its name also references Nike’s 2006 “Joga Bonito” campaign, which celebrated the creativity, passion and expressive style of Brazilian football.
Glossy Metallic Silver covers the smooth synthetic-leather upper. Flowing Varsity Royal and Varsity Maize lines recreate the striking appearance of the original football boot, while black details frame the colourful design. R9 branding on the padded tongue and additional campaign graphics on the tongue and insole reinforce the connection to “O Fenômeno”.
Underneath the football-inspired upper sits the familiar Air Max 95 sole unit. Visible Max Air elements in the heel and forefoot combine with a foam midsole and durable rubber outsole, transforming one of the most recognisable football boots of the late 1990s into a wearable lifestyle trainer.
