TLDR: The Nike Moon Shoe ‘Soft Yellow’ brings back the running DNA of the early 70s, combining vintage track aesthetics with a clean lifestyle design. A nylon upper, classic Waffle sole and subtle retro details make this trainer a standout summer release. It drops on 7 May for €100. Nike continues its journey back to its roots and, with the Moon Shoe “Soft Yellow”, is releasing another colourway of the legendary running silhouette from the early 70s. The model is based on one of the very first Nike prototypes – developed by Bill Bowerman with a waffle sole, long before Nike was officially founded.
The new “Soft Yellow” version stays true to the classic running aesthetic and delivers an extremely clean vintage look. The upper is made of lightweight nylon in a soft yellow hue and is complemented by tonal suede overlays on the eyestays and heel. This keeps the sneaker minimalist, yet gives it enough depth and structure.
Soft pearl leather Swooshes create elegant contrasts on the sides, whilst cream-coloured laces and the classic woven Nike tongue tag reinforce the retro vibe. Particularly striking is the visible zig-zag edge along the overlays, which gives the shoe a slightly raw, almost handmade look. A small embroidered Swoosh on the heel rounds off the design.
Underneath the trainer sits, of course, the iconic Waffle outsole in black, whose aggressive traction pattern directly references the Moon Shoe’s original performance DNA. In this way, the release combines historic Nike elements with current low-profile and vintage runner trends.
