TLDR: The Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Som Tum’ brings Thai food vibes to the streets. Loads of hidden details, special materials and compelling storytelling – releasing on 11 April (skate shops) and 14 April via SNKRS for €120. With the Nike SB Dunk Low “Som Tum”, Nike SB once again demonstrates just how powerful its in-house storytelling releases can be. Instead of a collaboration, the focus here is on a cultural theme: inspired by the Thai papaya salad “Som Tum”.
Visually, the sneaker features earthy beige and brown tones, combined with striking orange accents and silver details. The materials are particularly exciting: textured overlays are reminiscent of traditional hand-woven rice baskets, whilst other panels feature a woven-like look inspired by rice sacks.
But the details go much further. On the tongues, you’ll find graphics of rice and the Som Tum dish, whilst the insoles are designed to resemble typical rice sacks. Hidden features such as a lotus detail under the sole or special embroidery round off the concept and make the shoe a true storytelling piece.
Despite the many details, the Dunk remains wearable and brings a fresh, culturally inspired touch to the SB line.
