TLDR: Nike has teamed up with British-Nigerian artist Slawn to give the Air Max 90 an artistic makeover. The new ‘Black Speckle’ and ‘White Speckle’ colourways feature a reworked leather mudguard, etched stone patterns on the Swoosh, collar and quarter panels as well as metallic gold and silver accents. The design is rounded off with a speckled midsole effect, which is particularly striking on the black version. The release will take place in spring 2025 via Nike.com and selected retailers at a price of €160. Nike expands its list of high-calibre collaborations and launches a reinterpreted version of the Air Max 90 with British-Nigerian artist Slawn. The two models ‘Black Speckle’ and ‘White Speckle’ give the classic design a completely new look.
The most striking new feature is the mudguard, which now runs around the shoe as a continuous leather strip. This high-quality touch replaces the classic medial panel design of the Air Max 90 and provides a more elegant finish. This detail is complemented by etched stone patterns that run across the Swoosh, the collar and the quarter panels, giving the shoe depth and structure.
The ‘Black Speckle’ has an all-black upper with silver accents, while the ‘White Speckle’ comes with a clean, sail-coloured look and gold details. Both versions feature a speckled midsole design, which creates a strong contrast, especially in the black version. The branding on the heel has been reworked and replaced with an embossed logo instead of the usual ‘Nike Air’ lettering.
