V.A.A x Nike Cryoshot Zoom M9 "USA"

TLDR: The Virgil Abloh Archive x Nike Cryoshot Zoom M9 brings back a legendary football boot from 1999. Inspired by Mia Hamm’s historic World Cup triumph, the collaboration combines the Cryoshot concept with signature Virgil Abloh details and will be released on 16 June for €200.

As part of Nike’s major X2 World Cup collection, the Virgil Abloh Archive presents its own interpretation of the new Cryoshot concept. It is based on the legendary Nike Zoom M9, a football boot from 1999 that is closely associated with US football icon Mia Hamm and was considered one of the first performance models developed specifically for women at the time.

For this reissue, Nike has transformed the original football boot into a wearable lifestyle trainer using Cryoshot technology. The characteristic studs remain visible but are encased in a transparent outsole, preserving the look whilst making the shoe suitable for everyday wear.

Visually, the shoe features a clean, almost entirely white design with quilted overlays and striking quilted details across the entire upper. Red accents on the tongue, heel and visible studs provide contrast and echo the colours of Team USA.

Of course, the unmistakable Virgil Abloh elements are also present. The familiar “AIR” branding appears on the heel, whilst the lettering “V.A.A. for Nike MIA HAMM Beaverton, Oregon, USA 1999” on the inside establishes the connection to the football legend and the original model.

The sneaker is accompanied by an extensive apparel collection featuring rugby shirts, patches, archive graphics and special VAA details. The entire capsule collection draws inspiration from American football culture and the iconic Team USA looks of the late 90s.
