Yuto Horigome is the first member of the Nike SB team to customise the Air Force 1 Low. The idea took shape after the Japanese skateboarder discovered an early prototype of the classic silhouette inside Nike’s DNA Archive. The finished design retains the shoe’s recognisable basketball aesthetic while adapting it for modern skateboarding.
The upper combines pale Light Bone leather with Photon Dust nubuck overlays and grey mesh quarter panels. Iron Grey accents on the Swoosh and collar create subtle contrast, while an artificially aged Coconut Milk midsole gives the silhouette a lightly worn vintage finish.
Several personal details connect the design directly to Yuto. His family crest featuring crossed hawk feathers appears on the lateral heel, while his lucky number 7 and a small Washed Coral Swoosh decorate the heel tab. His name is printed on the Nike SB tongue label, with custom insoles, lace dubraes featuring a topographical map of Japan and moulded “YUTO” lettering on the medial midsole completing the concept.
Nike has also reworked the midsole and footbed for skating, aiming to provide improved boardfeel without sacrificing impact protection. An encapsulated Nike Air unit in the heel and additional collar padding deliver the comfort required for longer sessions.
