The Nike Winter N7 Collection Honours the Indigenous Population

Every year, half of the biannual Nike N7 collection is launched in conjunction with the Native American Heritage Month, which highlights the stories of Native Americans in North America.

Shoes include brightly colored radial patterns on the Air Max 1, SB Blazer Low GT, and Irvings Kyrie 6, which are also featured on the new Nike N7 apparel — hoodies, long and short sleeve t-shirts, and leggings.

Kyrie Irving's mother belonged to the tribe of the Standing Rock Sioux. Although she died when he was four years old, he acknowledged his roots by attending a naming ceremony in 2018. He was then given the name "Hela" (pronounced HAY'-law), which means "Little Mountain".

At the heart of the collection is a belief in the recovery of heritage, which leads athletes like Irving on daring personal explorations to discover their history. In Irving's case, the journey drives him to work for a better future for Standing Rock and indigenous communities through activism and a collaboration with N7.

"I am very proud to be Lakota-Sioux, and at the same time, I am still in the process of delving deeper into discovering who I am and where I come from," says the Brooklyn Nets' point guard. "Everything that has to do with my background, I have always accepted, but I have not necessarily understood it until now. The immense pride I feel comes from this journey I have made, this rediscovery I have made in my adult life."

Don't Miss the Release of the Nike Winter N7 Collection

The Nike N7 winter collection will be released on November 13th at Nike and selected retailers.
