Bella Hadid and A$AP Nast celebrate the comeback of the adidas SL 72

Update 30.07.2024

Bella Hadid comments on the current adidas allegations:

For those who don't know my heart, I want to make sure you hear directly from me about my recent campaign with adidas. I would never knowingly participate in any art or work that is in any way connected to a terrible tragedy. Prior to the release of the campaign, I had no idea of the historical connection to the horrific events of 1972 and I am shocked, angered and disappointed at the lack of sensitivity shown in this campaign. From the bottom of my heart, had I known about it, I would never have taken part. My team should have known, adidas should have known and I should have done more research so that I too would know, understand and speak out. I have always stood up for what I thought was wrong. Even though the intention was to create something positive and bring people together, the collective lack of understanding from everyone involved has undermined the process. I don't believe in hate in any form, nor do I believe in anti-Semitism. I will never doubt that, and I fully stand behind that statement.

To associate the liberation of the Palestinian people with such a tragic attack hurts my heart. Palestine is not synonymous with terrorism, and this campaign has unintentionally brought to the forefront an event that does not represent who we are. I am a proud Palestinian woman and our culture encompasses so much more than what has been equated in recent weeks.

I will always stand with my people in Palestine while advocating for a world without anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism has no place in the liberation of the Palestinian people.

I will always stand up for peace instead of violence, every day. Hate has no place here, and I will always stand up for my people and for all people in the world.

Update 22.07.2024

adidas has once again become embroiled in controversy after the company launched a campaign to revive its SL72 shoes featuring supermodel Bella Hadid. The shoes, which were first introduced at the 1972 Munich Olympics, are linked to a tragic event in which the Palestinian group Black September killed eleven Israeli athletes. The choice of Hadid, a proud Palestinian and supporter of the Palestinian cause, as the face of the campaign was met with criticism from the Israeli government.

In response to the criticism, adidas withdrew the adverts and announced that it would revise the campaign. The company apologised and explained that any connection to historical tragedies was unintentional. This decision sparked mixed reactions online. Many defended Hadid and called for a boycott of adidas for withdrawing the campaign.

According to TMZ, Bella Hadid is planning to take legal action against adidas and has already hired a lawyer. She wants to sue the company for a lack of public responsibility. Rumours that adidas had dropped Hadid have been refuted by TMZ as she is still under contract. Both parties have removed the campaign from their social media accounts.
