Michael Jordan's Game-Worn Nike Air Ship 1984 Is Among the World's Most Expensive Sneakers at USD 1.47 Million

The Nike "Moon Shoe" moved down one place in the category of "the world's most expensive shoes" last Monday. At Sotheby's "Icons of Excellence & Haute Luxury" auction in Las Vegas on October 25th, 2021, the Nike Air Ship 1984 worn by Michael Jordan in the game sold for an incredible $1.47 million.

The pair signed by Michael Jordan almost set a new record with the auction price of 1.472 million US dollars. The first place is still secured by Ye's Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes with 1.8 million US dollars, which he wore at the Grammys in 2008.

But who is the proud owner now, putting down so much money for a pair of signed shoes from the GOAT? The Nike Air Ship that MJ wore to his fifth NBA game in his first season on November 1st, 1984 now belongs to avid trading card collector Nick Fiorella.

"The presentation of such a groundbreaking and important pair of trainers at this special auction in Las Vegas underscores the strength and wide reach of the sneaker-collecting community. This record-breaking result for the Nike Jordan Air Ship confirms the position of Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan franchise at the forefront of the trainer market. Since the launch of sneaker sales at Sotheby's in 2019, we have consistently seen the boundaries for sneakers pushed, and we are excited about the potential ahead," said Brahm Wachter, Head of Sotheby's Streetwear and Modern Collectables.
