In 2026, Nike will launch a new player edition of the KD 18 dedicated to Chet Holmgren. The young Oklahoma City Thunder star is one of the most important representatives of the KD signature line and now gets his own version of the performance basketball shoe with the ‘Thunder & Reign’.

Visually, the sneaker relies heavily on purple tones – a clear reference to Holmgren himself, but also to musical influences such as Prince and his legendary ‘Purple Rain’. At the same time, the name ‘Thunder & Reign’ plays on a pun: instead of “Rain”, ‘Reign’ stands for a possible period of dominance for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The upper is made of mesh and leather in various shades of purple, creating a dynamic, slightly shimmering look. Particularly striking are the animal print overlays on the toe and heel, which give the shoe additional character. Depending on your interpretation, they are reminiscent of either cow or cheetah patterns.

Personal details from Holmgren round off the design. His ‘CH7’ logo with a lightning bolt symbol appears on the tongue, while a small metallic Swoosh on the heel adds additional highlights.

Technically, the KD 18 remains a modern performance basketball shoe. Zoom-based cushioning provides responsiveness and comfort on the court, while the lightweight upper accommodates quick movements and changes of direction.
