TLDR: The JJJJound x New Balance 740N “Stoneware” brings the Montreal-based studio’s minimalist aesthetic to a more affordable retro runner. Light-coloured mesh, brown overlays and dark N-logos are paired with classic ABZORB cushioning. It’s set to be released on 6 August 2026 for €140. With the 740N, JJJJound is tackling yet another New Balance silhouette from the early 2000s. Rather than completely reinventing the trainer, the studio remains true to its well-known design formula: muted colours, subtle branding and a mix of materials that only reveals its details at second glance.
The base is made of light beige mesh, whilst brown synthetic overlays encase the toe box, eyelets, sides and heel. Dark ‘N’ logos and a black collar provide clear contrasts without disrupting the clean ‘Mushroom’ look. Cream-coloured laces round off the earthy colour palette.
Small red and navy accents appear on the lace loops, tongue labels and in the cushioning area. The JJJJound branding remains deliberately understated and is mainly found on the insoles, as well as discreetly on the heel.
Beneath the upper, the classic construction of the 740N is retained. The ABZORB cushioning is designed to reliably absorb impacts in everyday wear, whilst the moulded off-white midsole and the segmented black rubber outsole complete the classic retro running look.
What’s particularly exciting is that JJJJound is bringing its well-known “Mushroom” colourway to a model outside the Made-in-USA and Made-in-UK lines for the first time. This makes the collaboration significantly more accessible than previous releases on the 990, 991 or 993.
