Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was known for his leadership style, but the tech icon's clothing style was also a real talking point. A black turtleneck, blue Levi’s 501 jeans, and simple shoes were often his trademark. The latter has now gone under the hammer, as an auction house in the US has sold off his worn sandals.
His brown, worn-out Birkenstocks, which Steve wore in the 1970s and 1980s, were auctioned off for over $200,000. Originally, the sandals were expected to fetch around $60,000, but in the end, a fan and collector bought the suede shoes for $218,750. A closer look even reveals Steve Jobs' footprint on the cork and jute footbed.
"Steve Jobs changed the world not only with his innovations, but also with his leadership style and fashion, which included wearing sandals," says Darren Julien, CEO and founder of Julien's Auctions. "These Birkenstocks were worn by Jobs when he made history with the development of the Apple computer and were the tech icon's trademark."

With this price, the auction house Julien's Auctions sets a record price for sandals sold at auction. However, the Birkenstocks do not come close to the price of the most expensive sneakers ever sold at auction. In October 2021, Michael Jordan's worn Nike Air Ships sold for $1.47 million.
