Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard Work on a Collab for the Kids

Both partners Nike and Tom Sachs have been working on the Mars Yard collab for over a year now. According to Nike, Tom Sachs' Mars Yard and the Mars Yard Overshoe will be out next week for the kids. We came across the latest info over a year ago. Back in April 2018, Sachs’ wife showed a Mars Yard sneaker that was insanely small. Because of this, many suspected then that a possible collaboration with kid sizes was most likely to drop. After that, talks about this speculated collab became a lot quieter—until now!

Tom Sachs wanted to be inspired by something designed by Tinker Hatfield from 1980. The project also had two objectives at the same time. First, the architect wanted to develop a sneaker that would inspire his son to do his job well and to come up with a sneaker that would meet a kid’s specific athletic needs.

"The bottom line is that my son Guy Louis Armstrong Sachs is now in the sculpture team," says Sachs. "He is an important part of the team and has his French smock, his 10-ball romper and now his Mars Yards.”

What's clear here is that the sneakers aren't quite as advanced as those for adults. But, the functionality for kids is most certainly guaranteed.

"The shoe is very, very flexible and that's what you ultimately want when you develop a strong new member of the team - you don't want a lot of structure," Sachs further states.
