From Samba to Air Force 1 – these are the sneakers worn by football stars off the pitch

Football stars have long since ceased to determine the game solely on the pitch. Off the pitch, too, many professionals set fashion trends – especially when it comes to trainers. Players regularly show off their outfits on Instagram, whether in everyday life, when travelling or on arrival at the stadium. It quickly becomes clear that many of them have a pretty good eye for trainers.
From classics such as the adidas Samba or Nike Air Force 1 to limited edition collaborations and luxurious designer models, there is something for everyone. Some players prefer timeless silhouettes, while others prefer eye-catching releases or rare collaborations.

For this article, we looked through Instagram posts from around 30 international football stars and collected their trainers. We focused primarily on models that the players wear in their private lives or at public appearances – in other words, the shoes that can be seen off the pitch.

It quickly becomes apparent that certain trainers appear time and time again – and certain models seem to be particularly popular among professional footballers.

The 5 trainers most frequently worn by football stars

If you look at the Instagram outfits of many professionals, you will quickly recognise some clear favourites. Certain models appear again and again on different players and are obviously part of the regular trainer rotation of many football stars.

These models are particularly common at the moment:

Many of these trainers have one thing in common: they are timeless classics that can be easily combined with modern streetwear outfits. This is precisely why many players keep coming back to these models.

The most popular trainers among football stars

If you take a closer look at the Instagram posts of many professional footballers, you will quickly recognise a few clear favourites. Some models appear again and again – whether on walks, when travelling or arriving at the stadium before the game.

Classics that have been an integral part of the sneaker rotation for years are particularly common. At the forefront is the adidas Samba. Its slim silhouette fits perfectly with modern footballer outfits and can be combined with both sporty and elegant looks. So it's no wonder that players like Florian Wirtz and Jude Bellingham regularly opt for this classic.

Another timeless favourite is the Nike Air Force 1. This sneaker has been one of the most popular models for decades and is also a favourite among footballers. Players such as Julian Brandt and Joshua Kimmich often opt for this classic white model, which can be worn with practically any outfit.

The adidas Superstar also remains a firm favourite. The iconic shell toe may look a little retro, but it has been making a comeback for some time now. Particularly interesting: both Lamine Yamal and Rafael Leão have recently been seen wearing different versions of the Superstar.

In addition to these classics, designer models are also popping up time and again. A good example is the Prada America's Cup, which has been seen on players such as Florian Wirtz and Karim Adeyemi. The mix of luxury fashion and sporty silhouette fits perfectly with the current style of many professionals.

Of course, it's not just classics. Players also regularly show off limited editions or hyped collaborations – such as Travis Scott Jordans, Off-White trainers or rare Nike releases.

These brands dominate the sneaker style of football stars

If you take a closer look at the outfits collected, it quickly becomes clear that some brands appear particularly frequently. The big sportswear brands in particular dominate the sneaker style of many professionals – but luxury labels are also becoming increasingly involved.

Nike is way out in front. Models such as the Air Force 1, various Air Max silhouettes and collaborations such as the Corteiz x Air Max 95 are worn by several players. What is particularly striking is that many footballers opt for classics that are easy to combine and at the same time have a strong streetwear reference.

Adidas follows closely behind. The Samba is currently one of the most popular trainers around and can be seen on several players. Then there are models such as the Superstar and performance-inspired silhouettes, which have now also established themselves in the lifestyle sector.
New Balance is also represented. Players such as Karim Adeyemi and Bukayo Saka have already been seen wearing models from the brand. Retro runners and newer lifestyle silhouettes in particular go well with the modern outfits of many professional footballers.

In addition to classic sportswear brands, luxury labels are also popping up more and more. Sneakers from Prada and Louis Vuitton are now also part of some players' rotation. Models such as the Prada America's Cup and the Louis Vuitton Skate Sneaker show that football stars have long since arrived in the high fashion sector.
It is also interesting to note that many players do not stick to just one brand. While some tend to favour classic sportswear, others combine trainers from Nike or Adidas with designer shoes and eye-catching collaborations.

The biggest sneakerheads among football stars

While many professionals tend to favour classic models, some players stand out with particularly exciting sneaker rotations. They don't just wear basics like Samba or Air Force 1, but also limited releases, designer shoes and rare collaborations.
Karim Adeyemi is a good example. The Dortmund player regularly shows off various sneakers from his collection on Instagram. In addition to classics, he also features coveted releases such as the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low "Black Phantom". There are also models such as the New Balance 1000 and the UNION x Nike Cortez, which shows that Adeyemi also experiments with sneakers beyond the typical footballer's choice.

Vinícius Júnior also stands out with his varied rotation. The Real Madrid star has already been spotted wearing trainers such as the Awake NY x Air Jordan 5 "Arctic Pink" and the Central Cee x Nike Air Force 1 "Syna World". At the same time, he repeatedly opts for eye-catching designer shoes or boots, which clearly distinguishes his style from that of many other players.
Phil Foden also has a keen eye for trainers. In addition to eye-catching models such as the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1, he also wears luxury silhouettes such as the Louis Vuitton Trainer and the Amiri Skeleton Low. His outfits often fall somewhere between streetwear and high fashion.

Rafael Leão is another player who is regularly seen wearing interesting trainers. In addition to classic adidas models, he often wears new releases or less expected silhouettes, which keep his outfits varied.

Sneakers have long been part of footballers' style

Ultimately, it's clear that many football stars have a keen sense of style when it comes to sneakers, even off the pitch. While some players opt for timeless classics such as the Adidas Samba, Adidas Superstar or Nike Air Force 1, others prefer limited editions, designer models or eye-catching collaborations.
The mix of sportswear, streetwear and high fashion is particularly exciting. Nike and Adidas models remain the clear basis for many outfits, but at the same time, sneakers from luxury labels such as Prada and Louis Vuitton are appearing more and more frequently. It is precisely this mix that currently characterises the style of many professionals.

Instagram provides an exciting insight into the players' sneaker rotation. From classic all-white Air Force 1s to rare Travis Scott Jordans, everything is represented – demonstrating that football stars have long been setting trends beyond the pitch. Even off the pitch, sneakers are an integral part of many of their styles.
