New Sneaker Gets the Famous Puerto Rico Motif

Update 02.06.2021

Finally, there is new info! We have official images of the Air Max 97 showing a few more details of the sneaker.

The phrase "Aquí Me Quedo", translated "I'm Here to Stay", is printed on the insole. It's a message that reflects the community's historically strong connection to New York City. We also have a flag on the tongue, which is even the right way around this time! Remember, the last Air Force 1 was cancelled because the flag was put on it the wrong way around.

The Air Max 97 "Puerto Rico" and a t-shirt will be released on June 5th at SNKRS and selected retailers.

Nike will be reintroducing the Puerto Rico motif in 2021 after the Nike Air Force 1 was cancelled in 2020 due to an error in the flag placement. This time, however, it's not an AF1, but another popular classic. Take a look at the first images here.

A Nike Air Max 97 OG "Puerto Rico" is expected in the new year, and it will celebrate the annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 13th in New York. The sneakers are supposed to drop in time for that day.

The sneaker itself is rather reminiscent of the Nike Air Max 97 OG "Silver Bullet". The base is a silver reflective mesh upper that draws the eye to the flags with wavy lines. Other new features include printed insoles with "Aqui Me Quedo" lettering and small flags on the outsoles.

Don't Miss the Release of the Nike Air Max 97 OG "Puerto Rico"

There is no exact release date for the Nike Air Max 97 OG "Puerto Rico" yet, but it is expected to drop before the Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 13th.
