Shop of the Week - Uebervart, Frankfurt am Main

We talked to Frankfurt's Uebervart about Yeezys, exclusive menswear and selected sneakers.

How long has Uebervart been around and what were the reasons for opening the shop back then?
Uebervart has been around since August 2008. We really wanted to open a store just for menswear, because there was nothing like that. Then, rather by chance, we were offered the shop space at Kleiner Hirschgraben 14. Not too expensive, in a cool location, the perfect size - that's how we quickly realised our dream.

How big is your team and what do you look for when hiring people?
We are a team of 5 people. Besides the enthusiasm for all the contemporary stuff (not only fashion, but also other products and the whole culture), you should know, for example, that Inneva is not a city in Belgium and Helmut Lang is not the caretaker. Joking aside, our customers are very well informed and like to talk. So we need to be better informed and communicative.

What do you think is special about your shop?
Well, certainly the selection and mix of brands. Selected, exclusive streetwear like Raised By Wolves and Palace meets grown-up menswear like Marni, Acne or Aspesi. Then there's our sneaker selection. Hardly inline, 80% selected shoes (Consortium, Quickstrike, Converse First String, New Balance Made in USA, Vault, Reebok Reserve, etc.).

What's doing particularly well at the moment - the most sought-after shoe of the moment?
Surely, oh wonder, the Stan Smith and the Superstar from fellow Herzo. The Nike Archive '75 has taken off quite strongly, the Inneva Woven is also going through the roof.

Which release are you looking forward to in the near future?
We are really looking forward to the Yeezy 350, no question. But we're also celebrating the Vault x Murakami collab and the New Balance ML 878.

What makes up the bigger part of your sales - online or in-store?
We're now at about 55% store / 45% online.

Do you have an event coming up and what is planned?
We started very successfully with our in-house line UBRVRT, with leather accessories, a few shirts and sweats. We will certainly do another "official" launch in the summer. Besides that, a small, fine thing with Saturdays Surf NYC is planned.

What can you find in your store that you can't find in any other store?
CO'PS coffee liqueur. We love it ourselves, that's why we sell it. And of course a compact selection of limited edition shoe stuff that you can't find in the city anymore. We're also proud to be part of the adidas Consortium network...so you're always lucky to be very exclusive.

What are your plans for the future?
We're going to rebuild our store a bit in the summer to create more space. And of course there has to be a sneaker collab from Frankfurt. We're working on that, but we won't tell you anything.

Last Words?
We love what we do. And, even if people sometimes say otherwise, working with these products is just awesome. Most of the dealer colleagues are cool and it always feels a bit like family. We in Frankfurt have bankers and lawyers in front of us every day during our lunch break and every time we think: Lucky ;)
