This is hard news, of course! adidas announced yesterday that two Speedfactories will be closing soon: one adidas Speedfactory in Ansbach (Germany) and a second one in Atlanta (Georgia, USA). But, that doesn't necessarily have to be bad news.

According to the press release, adidas wants to make more efficient use of its existing production capacity and allow for its product design to be more flexible. To achieve this, the state-of-the-art Speedfactory technology will be shipped to Asia to continue production with two major suppliers. It is said that production in Ansbach and Atlanta will be discontinued by April 2020.

According to adidas, we will benefit from this as the existing technical capabilities can be leveraged by the supplier in Asia. The move may result in the loss of jobs, and how many of those 160 jobs in Ansbach are really at risk is still unclear.
