adidas Jabbar
The adidas Jabbar first appeared in 1971 and immediately made history: it was the first signature sneaker ever designed for an NBA player. It is named after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, six-time NBA champion, record-breaking player and absolute icon of the sport. As one of the most influential basketball players of his time, his name stands for dominance on the court – and for a shoe that continues to make a stylistic impression to this day.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his unforgettable legacy

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, born on 16 April 1947 in New York City, is one of the greatest legends in basketball history. Standing 2.18 metres tall and with an unmistakable playing style, he dominated the NBA for over two decades – first with the Milwaukee Bucks, then with the Los Angeles Lakers. During his career, he won six NBA titles and was voted MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the league just as many times – a record that still stands today.

Abdul-Jabbar became famous above all for his ‘sky hook’, an elegant hook shot that was almost impossible to defend against. He was not only an exceptional athlete, but also an intelligent strategist who shaped the game like no other. With a total of 38,387 points, he was the NBA's top scorer for a long time.

The comeback of a basketball legend

The shoe became famous for its minimalist design, functional shape and high-quality leather upper, which set new standards at the time. The shoe offered stability and comfort while also making a fashion statement – not only in the arena, but also on the street.

In addition to the classic high-top version, there is also a flatter low-top version that is particularly suitable for everyday wear. The Jabbar is now available in several colourways – from clean white with navy details to retro-style reinterpretations.

Since 2024, the adidas Jabbar has been experiencing a real revival. Vintage basketball silhouettes are currently in high demand, and the Jabbar, with its history and clean leather look, is right on trend. Whether as a sporting homage or a fashion statement, the sneaker is back on the radar and belongs in every well-stocked rotation.
