Gundam is one of the most influential and best-known mecha franchises in the world. The series began in 1979 with the anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam" by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate. Since then, Gundam has gained a huge fan base and spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, films, manga and model kits. Gundam is not only a cultural phenomenon in Japan, but has also gained worldwide recognition.
The original "Mobile Suit Gundam" series revolutionised the mecha genre by introducing more realistic and complex stories. Instead of simply showing giant robot battles, the series dealt with the human elements of war, political intrigue and moral dilemmas. This deeper approach helped set Gundam apart from other mecha series.

Collaboration with Nike
In 2021, Gundam celebrated a notable collaboration with Nike that sent the sneaker world into a frenzy. This collaboration resulted in the Nike SB Dunk High "Gundam", which was inspired by the iconic RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. The sneaker was released in two colourways and featured detailed designs reminiscent of the distinctive elements of the Unicorn Gundam.
