Spongebob Squarepants Sneaker Releases

SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most famous and longest-running cartoon series of our time. Since its first appearance in 1999, the yellow sponge from Bikini Bottom has continued to delight new generations of viewers. With a mixture of childlike humour, clever puns and completely absurd moments, it has achieved cult status.

The series is set at the bottom of the sea, in the small town of Bikini Bottom. There, SpongeBob lives in a pineapple and works as a chef in the famous ‘Krosse Krabbe’ restaurant. He is always enthusiastic and optimistic. With his best friend Patrick, probably the most lovable idiot in the ocean, he constantly experiences new chaotic adventures.

In addition to the two of them, the brilliant Sandy Cheeks, the grumpy Squidward and the money-hungry Mr. Krabs are among the best-known characters in the series. Each of them has a distinctive trait that makes SpongeBob's world so unique.

What sets the series apart to this day is the balancing act between childlike innocence and subtle humour that also appeals to adults. Many scenes are simply cult classics – from SpongeBob's famous laugh to memes that originated from old episodes and are now hugely popular on the internet.

SpongeBob has also long been firmly established in pop culture. From fashion collaborations and sneaker releases to video games and feature films, the brand is a global phenomenon that extends far beyond the series.

The SpongeBob × Nike Kyrie collection from summer 2019 is one of the most popular pop culture sneaker projects of recent years. The idea came from Kyrie Irving, who is a big SpongeBob fan himself. Nike wanted to combine cartoon nostalgia and basketball sneakers. The result was a colourful, humorous and technically strong collection that delighted not only sneakerheads but also fans of the series.

The line included several models of the Nike Kyrie 5 and Kyrie Low 2, each inspired by iconic characters from Bikini Bottom. The Kyrie 5 ‘SpongeBob’ came in bright yellow with sponge-like textures, while the ‘Patrick Star’ featured pink accents and a graphic floral look. The turquoise ‘Squidward’ opted for understated elegance, which also suits the character's grumpy clarity. Then there was the ‘Sandy Cheeks’ in brown and white tones and the fiery ‘Mr. Krabs’ in red and gold – a small tribute to his penchant for money.

The Kyrie Low 2 models are now also available in SpongeBob's ‘Pineapple House’ design and with a different Patrick look.

The SpongeBob x Crocs 2024 collection has brought the humour and colours of Bikini Bottom to some of Crocs' most popular models. The focus was on several colourful Classic Clogs, including a yellow SpongeBob clog with typical sponge details, a red tie and matching Jibbitz charms. Patrick Star also got his own model, which is decorated in shades of pink and green and has a green sole. It also features the typical accessories that allude to his crazy personality.

A real highlight was the SpongeBob x Crocs Off Court Clog ‘Bikini Bottom’, which took the theme even further. In a darker black and blue look, it combined the modern off-court silhouette with vibrant graphics from the underwater world. 

The collaboration between SpongeBob SquarePants and adidas brings two classics from the Three Stripes into a playful new light – and both sneakers will be launched on 20 November 2025.

The adidas Superstar ‘Patrick Star’ is a rather stylish interpretation of SpongeBob's best mate. The pink upper is reminiscent of Patrick's skin, while details on the tongue and insole reflect his slightly scatterbrained character. The iconic shell toe remains, of course, but gets a fresh, cartoonish twist with colourful accents and a modern sole.

The adidas Stan Smith ‘Black’ is much more subtle. The black upper is reminiscent of SpongeBob's typical shoes, while white laces in a ‘sock look’ and a small SpongeBob face on the tongue show that this is SpongeBob. Instead of too much excitement, this model focuses on clean lines with tongue-in-cheek details – perfect for those who love the cartoon but are a little more reserved.
