Matthew M. Williams is an influential American fashion designer known for his innovative approach to design and his ability to fuse haute couture with streetwear. Born in Chicago and raised in California, Williams has developed a unique aesthetic that is often inspired by his love of architecture and modern art.

Williams founded the label Alyx in 2015, which was later renamed 1017 ALYX 9SM, a tribute to his daughter, the label's founding date and his creative studio in New York City. His collections are known for their futuristic sophistication and the use of high-quality materials. He uses innovative techniques to create garments that are characterised by both structure and function, such as his signature quick-release fastenings and laser-cut details.

In June 2020, Williams was appointed creative director of Givenchy, a position that expands his vision on a global scale. At Givenchy, he has focused on combining the classic elements of the house with his own contemporary sensibility.

Williams is also known for his collaborations with major brands and artists. His partnerships range from Nike and Moncler to artists such as Nick Knight and Kanye West, emphasising his ability to combine fashion with other creative fields.
