adidas NMD XR1
The entire foot sits on a Boost midsole for extreme comfort and maximum energy return. With a sleek and futuristic style, this casual sneaker is sure to offer unparalleled comfort and is so light on the foot that it makes it the perfect all-rounder. For sneakerheads looking for the perfect sneaker to stand out, the adidas NMD XR1 (despite its somewhat expensive price range) is a very good choice.

adidas NMD XR1 Fit and Style

Since the sneaker has a mesh upper, it is particularly flexible, but also offers little support at the collar or tongue. The pull tab ensures that you can put the sneaker on very quickly. The Boost midsole is like the other NMD models, so it's really good. The adidas NMD XR1 is considered true to size and is offered for both women and men. Sneaker lovers with medium width feet will definitely adore the sneaker.

We received several colourways of the adidas NMD XR1 directly, so we had to create a small selection of the most popular models for you.

adidas NMD XR1 Triple Grey

This monochrome sneaker is made of grey and metallic silver on top of a white Boost midsole and a non-slip rubber outsole. The heel counter and tongue label are made of grey leather, while the pull tab features the words "The Brand with the Three Stripes".

adidas NMD XR1 Triple Black

In this iteration, we also get a monochrome, dark sneaker that relies on a Primeknit upper. Here, the cage is also completely black. Accents are added with red stitching at the back of the sneaker.

adidas NMD XR1 Black

This model was introduced in 2017 along with the adidas NMD XR1 Navy Blue and adidas NMX XR1 Grey. This model features a Primeknit upper with a contrast colour pattern to give the sneaker texture and a unique look.

adidas NMD XR1 Zebra

This safari-inspired sneaker features a unique aesthetic with stripes throughout the upper. The black and white mix created extreme hype among sneakerheads, who rock the style with their casual off-duty attire.

adidas NMD XR1 Raw Pink

This adidas NMD XR1 is exclusively for women. Unlike the name suggests, the sneaker is not bright pink, but rather cream mixed with grey tones. The white boost sole and a white outsole round off the look perfectly.

The special thing about the NMD XR1 is that the typical style element of the NMD sneaker has been adapted and changed. The front EVA midsole plug in the NMD XR1 has been optimised. The chunky plug from the predecessor has been completely replaced. At the heel, however, adidas has remained true to itself and kept the EVA plug chunky. The heel pull tab has also been adapted and provided with loving details, which was extremely well received by the sneaker community.

adidas NMD XR1 History

In 2015, adidas wanted to launch a sneaker that was not specifically designed for a particular sport, but was intended exclusively for the street. This idea gave birth to the NMD line from adidas. The first NMD sneaker was the adidas NMD Runner, designed by adidas designer Nic Galway. The design was so groundbreaking that you can see this silhouette clearly from a distance.

Galway wanted to create a sneaker where every part has an important function. He then took inspiration from the brand's archived shoe models and modernised them. So Galway incorporated everything he wanted into a perfect sneaker - simplicity and functionality.

What does NMD stand for? It stands for Nomad. A member of a community that lives in different places and moves from one place to another. That is the vision of Nic Galway. He wanted his sneaker to be worn by people who are constantly on the move. He practically constructed a shoe that fits the nomadic lifestyle of this generation - a life without borders. With optimal comfort and lightness, the NMD range is not far from becoming a legendary sneaker range.

The first adidas Originals NMD to be released was the NMD R1 in 2015, which was designed more for modern city life than for specific workouts. Although it is extremely comfortable, it is not necessarily suitable for breaking athletic records with this sneaker. The adidas NMD XR1 was launched in 2016 with improved looks, support and comfort. The street-ready style of the NMD XR1 has successfully combined science and style into one innovative sneaker.

Experiences with the adidas NMD XR1

The community is absolutely unanimous on this one, because the comfort is simply outstanding with the NMD XR1. The stylish and modern design was extremely well received and due to the size accuracy, there were very few returns on this sneaker. Since there are different colourways, the sneaker can be perfectly combined. This sneaker can easily be seen as a very good all-round sneaker that really shines in everyday life. Due to the low weight, the sneaker is hardly noticeable on the foot. The sneaker community would definitely recommend this sneaker to their friends and family. On the negative side, the NMD XR1 is rather expensive and has often been described as "loose", although this is quite intentional on adidas' part.
